Aims: To establish an academic platform and make a scientific network for sharing and transferring and exchanging knowledge in the field of the health in disaster and emergency and to facilitate diffusion of research results among researchers. Scopes: Health in Emergencies and Disasters Quarterly covers all topics related to different dimensions of preserving and/or enhancing health in emergencies and disasters (i.e. health care services/organizations, civil engineering, geology/geometry, policy making, socio-cultural considerations, ethical issues, political emergencies, economic crises, climate change, etc) from international researchers in form of original and review papers as well as short communication, case study and field reports, editorial, commentary, policy brief and book review.

About the Journal

Health in Emergencies and Disasters is a quarterly open access peer-reviewed journal that publishes in collaboration of Health in Emergencies and Disasters Research Center of University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (hderc.uswr.ac.ir) since 2013.
HEDQ identified as a journal that

  • is unique in the Middle East region especially the Persian Gulf region regarding the complex emergencies and disasters.
  • works as a scientific media for all disciplines to share related knowledge and experiences.
  • attempts to improve disaster prevention, mitigation, resiliency, response and rehabilitation policies and practices
  • adopts a world-wide geographical view
  • provides a variety of academic papers, case reports and field studies

HEDQ provides a forum for associations, institutions, research and service centers, foundations, companies, and individuals concerned with emergencies and disasters to share perspectives, concerns, ideas, and information that will foster cooperative efforts to improve health aspects in emergencies and disasters.

Aim & Scopes

HEDQ covers all topics related to different aspects of health in emergencies and disasters (i.e. health care services/organizations, civil engineering, geology/geometry, policy making, socio-cultural considerations, ethical issues, political emergencies, economic crises, climate change, etc) from international researchers in form of original and review papers as well as short communication, case study and field reports, editorial, commentary, policy brief and book review.

Submission process

All manuscripts should be submitted through Online Submission portal in the journal website. The correspondence author should take all responsibilities for the article during submission and peer review process.

Publication and peer review processes

After editorial assessment all submissions will be sent for the journals double-blind peer review, unless they are either irrelevant to the scope of journal or below the journal standards. They will generally be reviewed by two experts (blindly) with the aim of reaching a first decision as soon as possible. Reviewers are asked to declare any competing interests. In addition to their comments for the authors, reviewers are asked whether the writing is of acceptable quality. Where possible, the final decision is made on the basis that the peer reviewers are in accordance with one another, or that at least there is no strong disagreement. In cases where there is strong disagreement either among peer reviewers or between the authors and peer reviewers, advice is sought from a member of the journal Editorial Board. The journal allows a maximum of two revisions for any manuscript.
